Testing for GATE Identification takes Place in February
Who is tested?
Any students not previously identified as GATE,
To refer a student for testing, parents should complete the Referral Form at this link, or fill out the Nomination Form at the bottom of this page and submit completed form to Ms. Singh.
Once referred for testing, students MUST return the GATE TESTING PERMISSION SLIP to the office or GATE Coordinator. Students who do not turn in GATE Testing Permission Slips, or turn them in late, may not be tested. The GATE Testing Permission Slips will be distributed by the students' referring teachers.
What is the test?
The District uses 2 nationally norm-referenced tests. All students selected for testing will first take the NNAT, a non-verbal, timed test. Depending on their scores with that test, the students either qualify for GATE, do not qualify as GATE, or may require additional testing with the OLSAT. Both are timed tests, the students must answer as many questions as possible within a specific time frame. The entire testing process takes approximately 1 hour. There are no "do-overs".
Where are they tested?
The students are tested in the GATE Coordinator's classroom.
When are they tested?
Testing will take place during the school day throughout the month of February. Students will be pulled from class to be tested by the GATE Coordinator.
How will you hear the results?
Notifications will be sent home by the second week of March letting parents know whether or not their child qualified for the GATE program.
